Donald McKinley Carroll
Donald McKinley Carroll is a native of Florence and a graduate of the Birmingham School of Law who has been representing clients across the state since 2008. He comes to Gathings Law from The Carroll Law Firm, a civil litigation firm he founded in 2008. Donald represents clients in a wide range of areas, from personal injury to contract disputes, fraud, and wrongful death cases.
Donald is a veteran of the United States Army and served the country four years as a Fire Support Specialist. His time in the service included tours in Europe and a six month deployment as part of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm in Iraq, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. His service gives him a unique perspective on cases involving the rights of former service members and he is accredited by the Veterans Administration to represent veterans obtaining disability benefits.
Outside of his experience as an attorney, Donald brings his clients at Gathings Law a deep understanding of how our legal system works, understanding that comes after years of working within the court system. He began his legal career as a law clerk for 10th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Helen Shores Lee. In that role, he provided briefs for hundreds of cases. He also assisted in judicial rulings based on his knowledge of applicable laws and extensive legal research.
Donald was later appointed Deputy Circuit Clerk for Jefferson County where he oversaw 65 employees and managed court investments of more than $17 million, collaborated with judges, attorneys, district attorneys, and other departments to determine the direction of the county’s court system, and supervised all aspects of court proceedings from initial filing of cases to their conclusions.
Donald is a member of the Alabama Bar Association and the Birmingham Bar Association. He has been admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. He is a graduate of Athens State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Donald serves as a mentor for youth through IMPACT/United Way. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Kappa Nu Lambda Chapter.
Donald is a proud father and looks forward to representing your family with Gathings Law.
